Addressing substance concerns, supporting healthier coping and treatment choices

Substance use and addiction services are for individuals whose use of alcohol or other substances has become difficult to control or is affecting health, relationships, work, school, or daily responsibilities. Someone may seek support when substance use is becoming more frequent, difficult to stop, or connected with anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health concerns. For individuals receiving care in Colorado, services may be provided through telehealth as part of psychiatric and behavioral health treatment.

How It Works

Support is based on the type of substance-related concern and how it is affecting the individual’s daily functioning:

Substance Use Disorders

Evaluation of substance use patterns and related behavioral or emotional concerns

Support with identifying factors associated with ongoing substance use

Medication management when clinically appropriate for the individual’s treatment needs

Addiction Counseling & Management

Counseling focused on substance-related behaviors, triggers, and coping strategies

Support with developing practical approaches for managing cravings and challenging situations

Ongoing monitoring of symptoms, substance use concerns, and treatment response

What to Expect

Care begins with a discussion of substance use, related concerns, and how these issues are affecting the individual’s health and daily functioning. Treatment may include counseling, psychiatric medication management when appropriate, or a combination of services based on the clinical presentation. Follow-up care allows symptoms, treatment response, and ongoing substance-related concerns to be reviewed and addressed.
